Frank About Health - The Social and Legal Impact of Living with Down’s Syndrome

The audience will learn about a case of misrepresentation of a person living with Down's Syndrome and not properly evaluated in her home in Canada and was unfortunately sent to a nursing home for a degenerative disorder which was not the case. The challenges of releasing Teresa Heartchild from the facility and advocating for her in Canada and the US become the mission as illustrated in the book Freeing Teresa by Franke James.

Franke James and Billiam James will be the guests on this episode of Frank About Health and Phyllis Quinlan will co-host this episode where we will discuss the social and legislative impacts on Down's Syndrome with one woman's plight through the medical system and how she overcame being sent to a nursing home for a condition she did not have and with the support of her family continues to remain free and lives a creative and good quality of life while living with the condition. The episode will explore the continued advocacy and the legislative changes necessary in North America to best represent people living with Disabilities. We will also show the social impacts that Teresa and her family have endured.
